Update Dev 166

07 October 2026

A family link used to be saved twice: once from each person. The two copies could drift apart, be half-deleted, or show up twice. Each spouse link and each parent link is now one link, read from both people, the way Xero Practice Manager holds it.

Highlights

  • One Link Per Family Relationship: A spouse link is one link between the couple, and a parent link is one link from the parent to the child. Both people's pages show it, in their own words: "Parent of" on the parent's page, "Child of" on the child's. Existing pairs have been merged into one link each; nothing about who is related to whom has changed.
  • "Child Of" Still Works Everywhere: Choosing Child Of on an entity's page, in the diagram inspector, on a drawn link or when creating a new person creates the same single parent link as Parent Of, with the person you chose as the parent. The person picker now asks the right question for each: "Parent Of" offers people who could be this person's child, "Child Of" people who could be their parent.
  • Deleting Or Editing A Family Link Touches Only That Link: Deleting a spouse no longer removes an earlier marriage between the same two people, and editing one link no longer rewrites another. The link badge and the "will also delete the reciprocal relationship" warning are gone, because there is no second copy.
  • A Couple Has One Spouse Link: A second spouse link for the same couple, either way round, is refused; a couple who divorce and remarry update their one link. Links to different partners are unaffected.
  • Family Links Cannot Be Moved To Other People: To link different people, delete the link and add a new one.
  • Biological Parents Counted Once: The "at most two biological parents" check now counts each parent once, from the parent links that point at the child.
  • Fewer Rows On Admin Counts: Relationship totals in admin views drop by the merged copies (about 735 rows).
