How do I use filter-groups? What can I include and exclude?

I have a large family structure with many entities, but I want to create diagrams that only show certain parts of it. I've heard about filter-groups but I'm not sure how they work.

Can someone explain what filter-groups are and how to use the include/exclude functionality?

Filter-groups are a powerful way to create focused views of your structure!

What are Filter-Groups?

Filter-groups let you define subsets of your entities to display on diagrams. Instead of showing everything, you can create targeted views.

Include vs Exclude

Include Mode (default):

  • Start with nothing, then add specific entities
  • Great for: "Show me just this company and its shareholders"
  • Add entities one by one to build up the view

Exclude Mode:

  • Start with everything, then remove specific entities
  • Great for: "Show everything except these inactive entities"
  • Useful when you want most entities but need to hide a few

Creating a Filter-Group

  1. Go to DiagramsFilter Groups
  2. Click Create Filter Group
  3. Name it descriptively (e.g., "Active Trading Entities")
  4. Choose your mode (include/exclude)
  5. Select the entities to include or exclude
  6. Save

Using Filter-Groups

When viewing diagrams, select your filter-group from the dropdown. The diagram will only show entities matching your filter.

Pro Tip: Create multiple filter-groups for different use cases - one for advisors, one for internal review, one for each family branch, etc.
