How do I show a current structure vs proposed changes side by side?

We're planning a restructure for a client. I want to be able to show:

  1. The current structure as it exists today
  2. The proposed structure after changes are implemented

Some entities will be removed, some new ones added. What's the best way to set this up so I can easily show both versions?

This is a common scenario and filter-groups are perfect for it!

The Two Filter-Group Approach

Create two filter-groups to represent each state:

Filter-Group 1: "Current Structure"

  1. Create a filter-group called "Current Structure"
  2. Include all existing entities that are part of the current structure
  3. Exclude any new entities you've added for the proposed structure

Filter-Group 2: "Proposed Structure"

  1. Create a filter-group called "Proposed Structure"
  2. Include all entities that will exist after the restructure:
    • Existing entities that are being retained
    • New entities being added
  3. Exclude entities that will be removed/wound up

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. First, add all entities to StructureGram - both current AND proposed
  2. Set up all relationships (current and new)
  3. Create the "Current" filter-group with only today's entities
  4. Create the "Proposed" filter-group with the future state

Presenting to Clients

When presenting:

  1. Open the diagram with "Current Structure" filter → Export as PNG
  2. Switch to "Proposed Structure" filter → Export as PNG
  3. Show side-by-side in your presentation

Pro Tips:

  • Use entity status (Active/Proposed/Inactive) to visually distinguish
  • Consider color-coding: existing entities in blue, new entities in green
  • Add notes to entities explaining the changes
  • You can even create a third filter-group for "Entities Being Removed" to highlight what's going away
