How to Duplicate a Diagram

This article explains how to duplicate a diagram so that you can create a copy to work from without changing the original.

Before You Start

You'll need an existing diagram to duplicate. If you haven't created one yet, see How to Create Diagrams.

When to duplicate vs. when to use a Scenario: Duplicate when you want a permanent second diagram (e.g. a simplified view for a client). Use a Scenario when you want to model a proposed restructure on top of a Base Diagram, with visual highlighting of additions and removals.

Method 1: From the Diagrams Page

  1. On the Diagrams page, find the diagram you want to duplicate.
  2. Click the duplicate icon next to Edit Diagram.

The copy is created and opened automatically.

Method 2: From Within a Diagram

  1. Open the diagram you want to duplicate.
  2. Click the duplicate icon in the top-right corner of the screen (hover over it to see Duplicate this diagram).
  3. Give the copy a name.
  4. Click Save Copy.

The copy is created and opened automatically.

What You'll See

You'll be taken straight to the duplicate as soon as it's created. Either method shows a confirmation to let you know it was successful.

Tips

  • To rename the duplicate, click the pencil icon next to the diagram name.
