How to Customise Entity and Relationship Styling
This article explains how to customise the appearance of entities and relationships on your diagrams so that you can tailor StructureGram's visuals to suit your practice.
Styling vs. Diagram Settings: The Styling page sets the colour, shape, and line style applied across every diagram you open. Diagram Settings is different — it controls what's displayed on one diagram (legend, country flags, family links, sizing) and is saved per diagram.
Opening the Styling Page
- In the left-hand navigation, click Styling.
- Select the Ownership Diagram tab.
From here you can customise the colour and shape of each entity type, the colour and line style of each relationship type, and global settings that apply across all diagrams.
Changing Entity Colour and Shape
Colour and shape are set per entity type — for example, you can set a different colour and shape for a Company than for an Individual. Trusts have multiple sub-types (e.g. Discretionary Trust, Unit Trust, Deceased Estate), and each can be styled independently.
Deceased Estate trusts are styled as a distinct trust sub-type with their own colour and shape, and their controlling-person relationship reads "Executor" rather than "Trustee". See Deceased Estate Trusts.
To reset a single entity type back to its default, click the reset button next to that entity.
Changing Relationship Appearance
Relationship styles are set per relationship type — for example, you can style the Beneficiary Of relationship differently from the Director Of relationship.
For each relationship type, you can change:
- Colour — the colour of the relationship line
- Line type — Solid, Dashed, or Dotted
To reset a single relationship type back to its default, click the reset button next to that relationship.
Global Settings
The following settings apply across all entities and relationships on your diagrams:
- Font size — the size of text displayed on entities
- Border thickness — how thick entity borders appear
- Padding — the space between an entity's text and its border
- Size and spacing — the default size of entities and the space between them on the diagram
Saving Your Changes
Once you're happy with your changes, click Save Changes at the bottom of the page. All of your diagrams update to reflect your new styles.
To reset everything back to StructureGram's defaults, click Reset to Defaults at the bottom of the page.
Publishing Styles for Your Organisation (Tenancy Admins Only)
If you're a Tenancy Admin, you can set your current styling selections as the default for everyone in your organisation by clicking Publish as Tenancy Defaults.
Once published, these styles become the organisation-wide default and override any custom styles individual users have set up.
