How to Create Entities

This article explains how to manually create entities so that you can build out the structure for your client.

There are two manual ways to do this, plus an import option — you can work whichever way feels most natural.

Before You Start

Make sure you have the Group active that you want to create entities for.

Method 1: Using the Entity Forms

  1. In the left-hand navigation, go to the Entities page for the type of entity you want to create — Individuals, Companies, Trusts, Partnerships, or SMSFs.
  2. Complete the form on the left. Fields marked with a red asterisk are required; the remaining fields are optional and let you record additional information. The fields differ depending on the entity type.
  3. Click Create [Entity Type] at the bottom of the form.

Method 2: Dragging onto the Diagram Canvas

  1. Open a new or existing diagram for the active Group.
  2. In the panel on the left, select New. Drag the entity type you want to create onto the canvas.
  3. The Inspector panel opens on the right, showing the same form as the relevant entity page. Complete the required fields and any optional fields you'd like to include.
  4. Click Create [Entity Type].

Method 3: Importing Data

You can also create entities automatically by importing data — StructureGram will create entities (and relationships) based on the information in your import. See Data Importing for the available import methods (ASIC Extract, XPM Sync, CSV Import, and Acceleon Direct Feed).

What You'll See

Using the entity forms: A "[Entity Type] created successfully!" message appears in the form. The new entity also appears in the list on the right-hand side of the page, alongside any existing entities of that type.

On the diagram canvas: An "Entity created successfully" message appears. The entity is visible on the diagram and is also available on the relevant entity page — the two are always in sync.

Tips

  • Watch for duplicate warnings. If StructureGram detects a potential duplicate, a warning message appears in the form or Inspector panel before the entity is created. Review the warning to avoid creating duplicates in your database.
