Glossary
This glossary defines the key terms used across StructureGram. Where a term links to its own article, follow the link for more detail.
Entities and Data
Entity
A person or legal structure recorded in StructureGram — an Individual, Company, Trust, Partnership, or SMSF. Entities are the building blocks of a client's structure. Each entity type has its own dedicated page and form. See Understanding Entities.
Entity Page
A dedicated page for each entity that brings together all data related to that entity — details, relationships, owned assets, documents, and more. See Understanding Entity Pages.
Asset
Something owned by one or more entities in a Group — for example, residential property or an investment. Assets are created and allocated to entities with a Method of Ownership that determines how ownership is split. See Asset Entities.
Asset Allocations
A register that shows all assets and their ownership allocations across the active Group, accessible from the left-hand navigation. Used to create new assets and assign or adjust ownership between entities. See How to Create Assets.
Method of Ownership
The way ownership of an Asset is split between entities. Three options: Sole ownership (100% to one entity), Joint-tenants (equal split among a set number of owners), and Tenants-in-common (custom percentage per entity). See Asset Ownership Methods.
Database
The underlying data store where all StructureGram data lives. Entities and relationships created on the diagram canvas are also stored in the database — the two are always in sync. There is no draft or unsaved state, which is also why there is no Undo button — see Understanding Why There Is No Undo Button.
Entity Documents
Supporting documents attached to an entity — constitutions, trust deeds, ASIC extracts, identification, and more. See Entity Documents and How to Attach Documents to an Entity.
Relationships
Relationship
A connection between two entities — such as a directorship, shareholding, or trustee arrangement. Relationships are governed by Validation Rules so invalid or illegal types are not offered. See Understanding Relationships.
Relationship Type
The category of a relationship — for example, Director, Shareholder, or Trustee. The types available depend on which entities are involved. Invalid types are not shown as options.
Relationship Register
A view that shows all relationships in the active Group in one place. Used to create, review, and manage relationships across multiple entities at once.
Validation Rules
Built-in rules that ensure relationships make sense both logically and in terms of compliance. They restrict the Relationship Types available based on which entities are involved. Updated automatically when legislation changes. See Understanding Validation Rules.
Relationship Documents
Supporting documents attached to a relationship — loan agreements, deeds, consents to act, and so on. Any relationship type can carry documents. A paperclip on the relationship row and at the end of the diagram link label indicates a relationship has attached files. See Relationship Documents.
Custom Link
A purely-visual link between two entities used to record arrangements that don't fit a built-in relationship type — for example, a shareholders' agreement or "founder influence". See Custom Links.
Diagrams
Diagram
A visual representation of the entities and relationships in a Group. StructureGram generates diagrams from stored data automatically. Two types: Ownership Diagrams and Family Tree Diagrams. See Diagram Export Guide.
Ownership Diagram
A diagram type that displays the entities and relationships in a Group, showing how entities are connected through ownership and other structural relationships. See How to Create Diagrams.
Family Tree Diagram
A diagram type centred on a chosen individual that displays their familial relationships — spouse, parent, and child connections. See How to Display Familial Relationships on a Diagram.
Base Diagram
The existing diagram a Scenario is built from. The Base Diagram remains unchanged while the Scenario is being worked on.
Scenario
A sandboxed copy of a diagram used to model proposed structures or restructures. Changes made inside a Scenario do not affect live data or the Base Diagram. Scenarios can have multiple steps to model a staged restructure. See Scenarios and How to Create a Scenario.
Diagram Settings
The panel accessed via the Settings button while a diagram is open. Controls what information is displayed and how entities are sized and spaced. Changes appearance only — not the underlying data. Settings are saved per diagram. See Understanding Diagram Settings.
Styling
The dedicated Styling page in the left-hand navigation where you customise the colour and shape of each entity type, the colour and line style of each relationship type, and global font/border/spacing settings — applied across every diagram. Distinct from Diagram Settings. See How to Customise Styling.
Entity Filter
A tool within a diagram that controls which entities from the Group are shown on that diagram. Hiding entities does not remove them from the database — it only affects what appears on that specific diagram. See How to Use Entity Filters.
Focus Entity
An entity selected in the Entity Filter to centre a diagram on its connections. Connections can be shown as Direct Links (one hop) or All Links (every connected entity, direct or indirect). See Focus Entity.
Auto Layout
StructureGram's built-in layout engine that automatically arranges entities and relationships to produce a clean structure. Can be re-applied at any time to restore a tidy layout after manual edits. See How to Change Diagram Layout.
Annotation
A visual element added on top of a diagram — line, rectangle, ellipse, or text — to help communicate a structure. Annotations are a separate layer from the diagram data and can be hidden or deleted without affecting entities or relationships. See How to Annotate Diagrams.
Snapshot
A feature that filters a diagram to show only the entities and relationships that existed at a specific point in time (or over a date range). Requires relationships to have historical date data — such as Appointment and Cessation dates — to work accurately. See How to Use Snapshots.
Inspector
The panel on the right-hand side of the diagram canvas. Used to configure and view properties of selected elements — for example, setting a Relationship Type when drawing a relationship, or completing entity details when dragging a new entity onto the canvas.
Groups, Access, and Sharing
Group
A Group represents a client or project in StructureGram. All entity and relationship data is organised within a Group. Activating a Group scopes all data and diagrams to that client. See Understanding Groups.
Organisation / Tenancy
The top-level account in StructureGram. All Groups, members, and settings belong to a tenancy. Use organisation in user-facing prose; the word tenancy appears in the UI for admin roles and settings.
Tenancy Admin
The highest permission level in StructureGram. A Tenancy Admin can view, edit, and delete data in all Groups and manage members, Teams, guest sharing, and access settings across the entire tenancy. See Understanding Access, Teams, and Sharing.
Team
A named group of internal members. Teams are assigned to Groups to grant all members of the team a consistent access level on those Groups. Managed in Account Settings → Team → Teams. See Team Management.
Guest / External Guest
A user outside your organisation who has been explicitly shared on one or more Groups. Guests can only be Viewer or Editor on a Group, cannot be added to Teams, and do not inherit access from open Groups. See Guest Sharing.
Integrations and Imports
Import Hub
A page in StructureGram for importing data from external sources — currently ASIC PDF extracts, ASIC Direct Feed, and XPM Sync. Accessed via Data Import in the left-hand navigation. See Import Hub.
ASIC Extract
A PDF issued by ASIC containing entity and relationship data for a company. StructureGram can import this PDF via the Import Hub and extract entities and relationships automatically. See Importing Joint and Non-Beneficial Shareholdings from ASIC.
ASIC Direct Feed
A feature that lets you order an ASIC company extract directly inside StructureGram so entities, relationships, and the extract PDF feed in automatically — no PDF upload required. Requires Purchase Billing to be set up. See How to Import a Company Directly from ASIC.
Confidence Score
A percentage shown on the ASIC import review page indicating how confident StructureGram is that it has correctly extracted all entities and relationships. Typically sits above 90%.
XPM / Xero Practice Manager
The Xero practice-management product StructureGram integrates with. Allows entity and relationship data to be pulled from XPM into StructureGram, or pushed from StructureGram to XPM. See Connecting to Xero Practice Manager.
XPM Sync Hub
The central location for managing the XPM integration. Accessed from the Groups page. Used to import XPM Groups as new StructureGram Groups, link existing Groups, or push data back to XPM. See XPM Sync Hub.
